Adaptive template settings

The following page provides an overview of configurable setting combinations available across the adaptive templates in Neptune DXP - Open Edition to achieve specific configuration aims when using an adaptive template. Each setting is listed with a brief description, the templates in which it is applicable, and possible business use cases for which the adaptive template setting is appropriate.

Settings overview

Use the following table as a quick reference to identify relevant settings and navigate to setting pages for detailed instructions and examples.

Setting Purpose Templates Business use cases

Configure color picker

Adds a color selection field that displays a visual color indicator when a value is set and supports optional restriction of manual input.

Adaptive edit template, adaptive list template

  • Visual categorization: Assign colors to statuses, categories, or labels.

  • Controlled selection: Limit color values to those selected through the value help.

  • Cleaner presentation: Hide raw color values while retaining a visual indicator.

Configure conditional visibility

Dynamically shows or hides a field based on defined conditions, such as whether another field contains a value.

Adaptive edit template

  • Dynamic forms: Show or hide fields based on user input to reduce complexity.

  • Context-aware workflows: Display fields only when they are relevant to the current scenario.

  • Validation simplification: Prevent unnecessary data entry by hiding irrelevant fields.

Configure custom number decimals

Controls how many decimal places are displayed for numerical values and how the decimal separator is formatted.

Adaptive edit template, adaptive list template

  • Financial data display: Control decimal precision for prices, costs, or totals

  • Measurement accuracy: Display values with appropriate precision for technical or scientific data.

  • Regional formatting: Adapt decimal separators for locale-specific conventions.

Configure default values

Automatically populates field default values using predefined system variables such as user information or dynamic date ranges.

Adaptive list template

  • Personalized defaults: Pre-fill fields using user-specific information.

  • Automation: Reduce manual input by setting dynamic default values.

  • Form standardization: Initialize fields such as Status, Category, or Type with predefined values to enforce consistent starting states across entries.

Configure edit/display mode

Enables fields to switch between display and edit modes via an Edit/Display toggle, allowing selected fields to be edited while others remain read-only.

Adaptive list template

  • Controlled inline editing: Allow users to edit only fields that are intended to be changed while leaving other data read-only, reducing accidental modifications.

  • Flexible workflow support: Support workflows where some columns should be reviewed before editing, or edits are only enabled at specific stages.

  • Simplified UI for large tables: Avoid overwhelming users with all editable fields active at once; toggle between read-only and editable views to focus attention.

Configure icon display

Displays a static icon in a field, allowing visual representation of status, type, or category.

Adaptive list template

  • Status indication: Represent states such as approved, warning, or inactive without text.

  • Visual categorization: Differentiate record types or priorities at a glance.

  • UI simplification: Reduce reliance on labels or values by conveying meaning visually.

Configure image insertion

Displays an image in a form field with optional preview, input visibility control, and configurable image height.

Adaptive edit template

  • Visual identification: Display product, asset, or profile images alongside form data.

  • Improved usability: Provide visual confirmation without navigating to external resources.

  • Contextual presentation: Show images dynamically when a valid source is available.

Configure input mask

Defines input layout and optional character constraints.

Adaptive edit template, adaptive list template

  • Standardized data entry: Enforce consistent formats for phone numbers, postal codes, or IDs.

  • Error prevention: Reduce invalid input by constraining allowed characters at entry time.

  • Regulatory compliance: Ensure identifiers follow mandated structural formats.

  • User guidance: Visually guide users on expected input length and structure.

Configure link settings

Controls how a link field opens and resolves its URL, including tab behavior and relative or absolute URL handling.

Adaptive list template

  • Navigation control: Define whether links open in the same or a new browser tab.

  • Application linking: Safely link to internal or external resources from a form.

  • Environment flexibility: Support relative URLs for multi-environment deployments.

Configure lookup

Uses a field lookup to map a key-value structure from another table definition to a field

Adaptive list template

  • Data normalization: Map reference data from shared tables into list templates.

  • Consistency across datasets: Ensure aligned values across multiple data sources.

  • Simplified maintenance: Centralize value definitions while reusing them across apps.

Configure single or multiple selection

Provides a field that allows selecting one or multiple predefined values, with optional key-to-display mappings for consistent display and filtering.

Adaptive edit template, adaptive list template

  • Reliable filtering in lists and views: Ensure filters return complete and correct results by using fixed, known values instead of user-entered text.

  • Uniform classification of records: Apply the same categories, statuses, or types across all records so data can be compared and processed consistently.

  • Clean input for reporting and automation: Provide structured values that can be used directly in reports, rules, and workflows without additional validation or transformation.

Configure switch field

Displays a toggle control that represents a boolean on/off state with configurable text or icon-based indicators.

Adaptive edit template, adaptive grid template, adaptive list template

  • Feature toggling: Enable or disable functionality using a clear on/off control.

  • Status indication: Represent active vs. inactive states in a compact form.

  • UI simplification: Use icons instead of text to reduce visual noise where labels are unnecessary.

Configure value help

Provides a predefined list of selectable values for an input field by sourcing data from another application or script and optionally restricting manual entry.

Adaptive edit template, adaptive list template

  • Controlled data entry: Restrict input to predefined, validated values.

  • Data consistency: Ensure uniform values across applications and users.

  • User efficiency: Speed up input by replacing free text with selectable options.
