Create a user launchpad experience with the Launchpad Designer
This scenario walks through designing a launchpad from start to finish in the Launchpad Designer. It focuses on the overall flow and how the design decisions fit together, rather than on every individual setting. Use it as a model for your own launchpads and adapt the choices to your audience.
Goal
Produce a coherent, branded launchpad that presents the right content to its intended users, and make it available by activating it.
Before you start
-
Decide who the launchpad is for and what they need to accomplish. Knowing the audience up front guides the appearance, the content you include, and how you group it.
-
If your organization already has a UI5 theme that reflects its branding, have it available so the launchpad can build on it.
Procedure
-
Open the Launchpad Designer. Start the Designer from the cockpit and create a new launchpad or open an existing one to evolve.
-
Set the appearance and theme. Choose the launchpad’s theme as the foundation for its look and feel, then refine the appearance of the launchpad chrome as needed. Use the light and dark previews to confirm the launchpad reads well in both appearances.
Start from a theme that already reflects your branding and adjust from there, rather than configuring colors from scratch. This keeps the result consistent and reduces the number of decisions you need to make. -
Organize the content. Add and arrange the tile groups and tiles that make up the launchpad. Group related content so that the structure matches how your users think about their tasks.
-
Review in the live preview. Use the preview to judge the launchpad as a whole, in both light and dark appearance, and adjust the appearance or structure until the result is coherent.
-
Save and activate. When the design is ready, save and activate it. The Designer generates the governed launchpad configuration, and the launchpad becomes available to its users.
Result
-
You have a working launchpad whose appearance and content were designed visually and are now backed by the platform’s standard launchpad configuration. You can return to the Launchpad Designer at any time to evolve it, and the existing launchpad layout tools remain available for specialized layout work.
